From quarterback to chart-topper – that, or at least something like it, sums up the impressive success story of singer-songwriter Sam Hunt. Hunt was born in Cedartown, Georgia, in 1984 and was a sports fanatic from an early age. So it should have come as little surprise to anyone when the smart Southerner became the object of desire for several college teams after high school. After two years at Middle Tennessee University, Hunt eventually transferred to the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he hit the ground running as an American football quarterback. Suddenly, even a career in the American professional league NFL was a topic. The Kansas City Chiefs showed serious interest and invited Hunt to a training camp. But in the end it wasn’t enough for the big coup, and a new plan was needed.

Fortunately, Hunt had another iron in the fire: music. In college, he had picked up a guitar and started writing music in earnest. The young man from the Peach State now wanted to follow this passion and moved to Nashville without further ado. What may sound rather naive quickly turned out to be a stroke of luck. With his enormous ambition, which had already distinguished him as an athlete, Hunt quickly made a name for himself in Music City and was soon able to make a living as a songwriter.
The final breakthrough came when Hunt was able to broker some of his songs to major artists on the country music scene. Kenny Chesney’s “Come Over,” Keith Urban’s “Cop Car” and Billy Currington’s “We Are Tonight” all came from his pen. A truly remarkable record. But Hunt wanted more. He released an acoustic mixtape on his own, and success was not long in coming. Soon, record bosses in Music City USA took notice of the up-and-coming artist.
The major-label debut album “Montevallo”
It came as it had to: Hunt received a record deal with MCA Nashville and began work on his debut album. A four-song EP called “X2C” was released in advance, which included the track “Leave the Night On.” It became Hunt’s first number-one single and reached platinum status in the US and went gold in Canada! Rarely has an artist gotten off to such a fast start.
Clearly, now the first album, titled “Montevallo” (named after the Alabama town where Hunt lived in his college days), was hotly anticipated. With his idiosyncratic style, which combines elements of country with pop, hip-hop and R&B into a colorful mix, Hunt undoubtedly took a risk. After all, it had little in common with the traditional Nashville sound. But the calculation worked out. Montevallo went straight to the top of the charts and has since sold over 300,000 copies. And that’s not all: the second single, “Take Your Time,” also claimed the top spot on the Hot Country Songs chart.
Within a very short time, Sam Hunt has managed to become one of the hottest artists – both in country music and beyond the borders of the genre.
The country singer also dared to take his first steps to Europe – for example, he performed at the 2015 “Country 2 Country” festival. Shortly after, Sam Hunt was elected New Artist of the Year 2015 by the members of the Academy of Country Music.
The triumphal procession of Sam Hunt was unstoppable. Alone “Leave the Night On”, “Take Your Time” and “House Party” all reached number 1 in the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts and could stay there for several weeks.

After the first chart successes were also achieved in the Netherlands, this success should also be transferred to Germany. In November 2015, Universal Music sent the single “Take Your Time” to the radio stations. In December 2015, Sam Hunt announced his first two concerts in Germany for March 2016, in Berlin and Munich.
In 2020, Sam Hunt released his second album called Southside. This album debuted at number five on the US Billboard 200, selling 46,000 album-equivalent units, including 18,000 net album sales. It earned the third-highest streaming week for a country album and was the second Hunt album to reach the top 10 in the U.S.
